Watch the BMW M2 CS set a Nürburgring lap record

The new BMW M2 CS has set a blistering 7m25.5s lap time around the Nürburgring’s Nordschliefe. Schnell, indeed.

Yup, BMW’s Jörg Weidinger had a good day at the office. The German driver went eight seconds quicker than the Audi RS3 is his 526bhp rear-driven M2 CS, and you can watch the full lap in the video below. Go on, a little bit of procrastination won’t hurt.

Weidinger actually shaved 13 seconds off his previous best in the M2. That was 2023’s 7m38.7s record, which was usurped by the RS3 last year. If you’re thinking there’s some annual one-upping going on, you could well be right.

Of course, the CS isn’t just any M2. The 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six in this car produces 82bhp more than the old M2 CS, and there’s 479lb ft of torque too. You also get an eight-speed auto box, a performance exhaust, suspension that sits 8mm lower than the ‘regular’ M2 and optional carbon ceramic brakes. There are also model-specific engine mounts and plenty of carbon-fibre-reinforced bits (roof, bonnet, interior trim) – dropping around 30kg off the M2’s kerbweight.
